I guess I never paid that much attention to the lower unit but it has a crack on the very bottom towards the front. It is on the bottom side and is about 3-1/2" long. What is the best way to fix this without buying a lower unit. I know you can weld them but I want to make sure that is the way to go and the risks involved in doing so. Also, when filling the lower unit there is a plug on the very bottom and one about a foot higher than that. Is this were I would put my new fluid in when it is fixed. Thanks for helping the newbie again. Josh

Honestly, I would start searching for a good used one they are relativly cheap used! the crack can be brazed over, however it will have to be completly disassebled, and you run the risk of warping the casing! you may try using Marine Tex, works pretty well on Aluminum! strong but sand easy!
