Hi All I am putting a 76 merc 1150 on an 87 bayliner I need advice on hooking up the tach, the way it is now the brown wire from my switch box is the tach signal wire, I read some place to hook up the brown wire to one of the yellow and red wires on the rectifier bridge? is that correct or am I about to short something out?

Thank you all again

Re: 76 merc tach hook up help

If ya have the factory internal harness, n' a functional Merc Corntrol the three prong port on the forward end of the Merc Corntrol is fer the tach hook up.

If ya don't have factory type wiring, route the tach feed from the brown wire on the switch box. JR

Re: 76 merc tach hook up help

Danny, the brown wire is the signal wire for the tach. However, if the Tach is an aftermarket unit (not '76 Merc tach), you need to remove the brown wire from the switchbox and connect the brown wire to one of the rectifier yellow wires.

One more thing. Go on the tach manufacturers web site and see if the tach will work with your merc. The Force tach may be a different animal.
