New boater here and I want to use my boat at least 1 time this summer!!!
:

From a cold start, The engine fires up right away, warms up and can idle for a couple minutes. Then, without warning, it just dies! No sputtering... just DEAD! The engine won't start back up after this. It'll crank and crank, but nothing. Every once in a while, it sounds like it will catch to fire up, but it just dies again.

The fuel pump was rebuilt last summer, so I am thinking that's not the problem because it doesn't sound like the engine is starving for gas, it just dies. I checked the water separator that I have on my fuel line to see if there is water in the gasoline, and there was no water in the gasoline that I took from the water separator. The boat did sit all water with about 1/4 tank of gas, so I thought maybe there was water in the gas. But I don't think so...

I checked the floats in the carbs to see if they were sticking, and they seemed to be okay when I checked them. They were floating okay. The fuel lines on the way to the carbs were full of fuel, so I don't think there is a problem with fuel getting to the carbs.

One thing I did notice, was when I was cranking the engine to try and start it, I noticed the bottom and middle carb were dripping a little gas. I was told this was normal, but it just seems weird to me. See the picture below, this is the bottom carb. The red arrow shows where the dripping was coming from. And the green arrow is the small pool of fuel building up.

Another thing I noticed was when I was trying to start it was a fine mist coming from the general area around the fuel pump. I don't know if the mist was water or gasoline. See the picture below, the blue arrow shows where I was seeing the fine mist. The red arrow shows where the bottom carb is located.

Why would the engine fire up right away, then die and not be able to fire up again that day?? Any help, suggestions, information or ideas of why the engine would just die and not be able to start up again is greatly appreciated! THANKS!

Brianmerc
