76' Mercury 4.5hp flooding

When i prime the motor with the rubber bulb gas floods out the top of the carb assembly, with a clean plug motor will start and run good for about 5 seconds before it floods out and gas runs out the drain hole on side of motor.

The float valve inside the carb bowl is not shutting off the fuel flow as needed..........the needle and or seat is dirty, damaged, or not set correctly. A complete carb cleaning may be needed along with replacing any damaged or worn parts..................

I agree with CamoJoe. Normally thats caused by a sticky float problem.
