Re: 77 140 crossflow thermostat change help

Its a pain in the azzz. I did it with two people on mine but I have heard from others that they used gasket 1000 to hold everything together. Also have hear of using tie straps to keep together, getting bolts started and then cutting them off. YOu can do it, its just a bear to try and get everything in there.

You may find one of two things helpful. You can drop the front exhaust housing cover and then remove the rear exhaust housing cover to help with access to the thermostat housing. If you still have problems, some loosen the lower cowling and wiggle up/down it to gain extra access. A knuckle-skinning procedure for sure.

Re: 77 140 crossflow thermostat change help

Thanks for the help guys I was able to get back together.I used two heavy rubber bands to hold the housings and gaskets in place.I put the rubber bands directly over the thermostats to hold them in place also. This allowed me to get bolts started. The springs were still a bear but feaseable using this procedure.I then cut the bands with razor knife and used needle nose pliers to carefully slip them out then finished tightening the bolts.
