77 15 Hp Evin. O.b. Water Pump/impleller Concern

Hi,

I've got a 77 15 hp Evinrude o.b./tiller/long shaft. I replaced the water pump housing and impeller last season. Before and after the repair I noticed that water does not come out of the exit hole w/any force. I was told that Evinrude uses a VOLUME IMPELLER vs say, Merc. that uses a PRESSURE impeller. Any truth to this or do I have a water pump/impeller problem. ?

sounds like you are ok. as long as you are getting water out the relief ports. the tstat has to open to cool the motor, and then you get more water.
