Hi, sorry for the length of this up front. It's my first rude. this motor is new to me so I put in a new water pump. I also added a pressure gauge and a tell tail to it. this I did to the head. The old pump had no gromet for the drive shaft to upper housing, no gasket under the bottom plate. and no O ring at the top of the drive shaft... This I did not add because I had no Idea where it went at first. Saw a video on here where a mech removed it. Is this critical? I saw a bit of water underneath the lower cowling. this will mean more later. I put it on muffs turned on the water. nothing on the gauge and no water out of the water outlet. this is out of a well water pump. might be low pressure. I started the motor let run a minute or so. started to get water out of the outlet but no pressure. no tell tale. I at this point may have put the impeller in the wrong direction. from my understanding is that if I did that it would corect itself? I droped the lower unit and checked to make sure the tube was in. started the whole procedure again. let it run and put my hand on the head while it ran. never got hotter than what I could not hold my hand on it. still no pressure and no tell tail actually just pulled the hose from the fitting. this is when I noticed a little water from under the front of the cowling. is this possibly from not having the O ring not there? At this point I removed the cylinder head cover to discover that there was no t-stat or pressure relief valve. head area was dry. I then again started it with out the cover on, muffs attached at first there was not much water 2-4 seconds then it came in surges out of the T-stat hole with some black stuff. I thottled it briefly and got a good amount of water out of the t-stat hole and then shut it down. I have since ordered all the parts. to replace the t-stat and the poppet valve. My questions are from what I have read tonight is, is the entire exaust leg full of water? seems like the manual says so. what should I expect from being on muffs? is the trickle I saw from the bottom front under the cowling from the o ring? Or do I need to put in a new gasket there? Sorry for the long post just do not want to fry this motor. I am not sure I am not overly paranoid about it.. previous owner seemed ready to put it in the lake..
