'77 850 idle problem?

Compression is 125, 140, 140 & 140, is this okay? I rebuilt the carbs, changed the diaphragm on the fuel pump, replaced the plugs & internal fuel hoses. I cannot get it to idle well enough to stay in neutral or shift fwd or rev without using the throttle lever. It gets a bit dangerous when you can't get from fwd to rev without it stalling. Could there be an ignition problem? I have tried playing with the throttle and spark levers and still cannot get it to idle. Help anyone?:(

Perform the link and synch on the motor. After that adjust the carbs to max idle speed and then richen them to allow smooth acceleration and reasonable idle.

Yuor compression is good.

Re: '77 850 idle problem?

I found Clam's post on link and synch. I have a timing gun but don't i have to get it to idle before I can check that? Do I need a dial indicator for this process? Is there a trick to verifying TDC without an indicator?

Thanks in advance for your time in this matter.
