I just spent the past month trying to get this thing started.

New:
Fuel pump
CD module
Two coil kits
Spark plugs
Water pump kit
15hp carb/rebuild kit
Countless man hours

I had been frustrated with it starting, then dying right away. First off, the original fuel pump was fine...just assembled wrong. Fixed that, same problem.

To make a long story short, I found out it was the carb after all. In the instructions for the kit, it said to have the float level with the lip of the carb, and I left it at that. Today I remembered my 19' Caravelle had a bogging problem and I bent the float plate up some to cure it.

Worked on this one too. Fired up on the first crank (using a drill on the flywheel). It was just getting too much fuel, and was actually running out the front of the carb.

Whew. Maybe I can actually get it on a boat this weekend.

As a follow up I took it out for a 15 mile run (GPS measured) and it hardly had any real problems. First start of the day fired on the first pull, but was a little grumpy after sitting for 20 minutes following a full throttle run.

Looks like with my new 9.5x10 prop it has a top speed of 24.5 mph with just me and the 14' jonboat. I'm impressed!
