Hello, I am new to this forum.

My problem is yesterday I took the boat out fishing at my local lake. It ran great the whole time. Then when it came time to put the boat on the trailer, I had my buddy drive the boat. He pulled away from the dock, and then moved the throttle back to idling in forward. The boat died in gear (it does this sometimes when its cold). Anyway he could not get the boat started. I swam out and climbed on and went to put the boat into neutral to start it but couldn't get it into neutral. I can push the throttle to full throttle in forward, but cannot move the lever into neutral or reverse.

I have taken apart the throttle control box and found a 3/16 ball bearing rolling around in it but cannot find where it came from. I pulled the cover off the spring and ball bearing that rides on the throttle lever gear, it is still intact and doesn't seem to bind when I move the throttle lever.

Any help? Please?

sounds as if the gears in the control, slipped and are out of alignment. very common, in older controls.

Thank you very much! That fixed the shifting problem. I can now move the lever into forward and reverse and neutral.

New problem now

Before the shifting problem was fixed I held the neutral safety switch with my hands and turned the motor over for about a 1/4 second just to make sure the switch was fine. Now that its all put back together, it will not try to turn over. Its like the battery is disconnected. I tested the switch in the control box with an ohmmeter and its fine. My dad says there may be another neutral safety switch on the motor, but I can't seem to locate it.

Any help? Please?
