Quick question, I just picked up a 77 Evinrude 115, The guy I bought it from told me that the motor ran good, but the boat it was on was in an accident. So he had the motor sitting in his back yard for about a year, thinking that he was going to get another hull and throw that motor on. But he ended up getting a new boat and motor. When i picked up the motor it look pretty good, but the motor would not turn over by hand, But I took the old hammar and a 2x4 to the fly and with two taps (love taps that is) she was turned over by hand. As I was going over this motor, it looked really good and I was thinking about cleaning up the surface rust ( which is not much) and putting it on my boat. But what concerns me is, I had to give it thoughs love taps to free it, do I have any real concerns, I assume it was the rings that was sticking.

Concerns - yep. Is it a basket - maybe-maybe not. I'd squirt Marvel Mystery oil in each cylinder and trun it over by hand once a day for a couple of days. The I would mount on a boat or stand and do the preliminary checks starting with compression. Let us know what you find.
