Hi all, thanks in advance for any help. I dont really know what I am doing, so trying to learn. I have a pontoon with 1977 Evinrude 85hp 2 stroke outboard (Model 85793S) that starts up just fine and stays running in neutral. However putting it in gear (forward or reverse) stalls the thing out 50% of the time. It stalls less when its warm and has been cruising for a while but still enough that at the wrong time in a small channel will cause panic. It does not stall when accelerating or once in gear.
I have done basics checked fuel filter, fuel, spark plugs. Research is pointing that its idling to low and something needs adjusted. My RPM gauge doesnt work so I cant tell RPMs.

A guy said to adjust these screws, circled in blue, (mixture screws?) will slight adjustment to that help? Or is there something else I am missing? Thanks again

I'm just starting out myself.
Those are the shafts attached to the butterflies.
.
I wouldn't adjust anything you don't know what it is.
.
But, before you adjust anything, go around your motor and take a picture of everything. That way if you do adjust something wrong, you can get back to where you were.

You are missing the FACT that there are no fuel mixture adjusting screws on these carburetors.
