does the switch need to be adjusted to the cam on the control handle or merely be bottomed out , "local outboard specialist" just bottomed out the switch it starts but will it possibly engage when in gear? the rig is still at his yard , havent had a chance to check it myselfbut dont want to tear up starter or flywheel.

Hi Bob

Before you take it to the water, leave the control in neutral and just hit the key switch to see if the starter will engage. Then try it in forward and reverse. Don't try and start the engine, just see if the starter will engage. If she don't engage in forward or reverse, should be good to go. :D

thanks ,i had thought this would be the way to go but being new to outboards i walk on egg shells if not sure. i am an auto tech by trade and am finding outboards to be a different world, also have made lots of money because shadetree mechanics made incorrect adjustments , and didnt want to go that route. thanks again
