77 Johnson Stinger won't shutoff (at least it runs) .

I have a 79 Johnson Stinger 75 horsepower lower end model#75ELR79R SN:J5122868. I replaced the powerhead with a 77 Johnson 70 horsepower Stinger model# 70EL77S, I have to look at the 70 horse again to get the serial number. It won't shutoff. I realize that there is a kill switch wire (yellow and black). I haven't seen this wire yet as I just bought the boat. Does this wire have to be connected so it will shutoff? Or does this wire have to have power to shutoff something i.e. a switch or solenoid? I don't have a kill switch lanyard connection, just a key switch. I used the electronics of the 79 stinger on the 77 stinger powerhead. The boat is a 91' Sunbird Corsair 150. Also I need to install a tell tale on the 77. I have a parts motor with the tell tale plug on the exhaust manifold plate. I need to know if the plate will interchange with the original on the 77. The exhaust manifold plate will come off of the 79 Stinger powerhead. I am a semi expirienced outboard mechanic mostly with smaller outboards, but I realize that most of the components are the same just bigger. I just need a little help in diagnosing the problem. I think I have figured out where the problem was, but not sure. The recifier red wire was on the circuit that was always on. I moved the wire to the post that came on when I turned on the key switch to the run position. I am going to run it tommorow so i wont wake the neighbors up. I have to find out if the other rectifier wiring is correct as well as the one I moved down. I would like to see the wiring schematic for it. Any help will be appreciated. Time 04:50 am central
