You can send Luhrs a Private message within this system if you'd like. If it's relative to all of us then by all means post it here. Welcome aboard!

Wow where have I been? I cant believe I missed this one, Its too bad this didnt work out as well as you hoped it would. A few things I didnt see mentioned- I think you can take just the turbo setup from a 6.5 and it will bolt right up to a 6.2, that with some very easy pump adjustments could get you up to 250 hp. You could also turn up the pump without adding a turbo, you could probably get another 30hp by doing this.
I think its a fact of life that all naturaly aspirated diesels are dogs, I've installed a few turbos on older ford diesels (6.9s) and it made a massive difference in power.
It sounds like you've written this off but you have a few options left, this is a cool project and it would be awesome to see it work the way you intended. I'm not sure a 350 would be all that great in your boat either, I'll guess you probably need 225hp to get up on step and 175 to keep it there and that'll be about the most you'd want a 350 to do.
I've been wanting to do a diesel swap for some time now, I have a cummins 12 valve waiting for the right 26'-28' older tolly express or chris-craft to come along. needless to say Ive read all 20 pages of this with keen interest.

Thanks for the suggestions but I already have a new Indmar 5.7 gasser with 310HP on order. In fact it will probably arrive later this week. I'm not going to install it until it starts getting warm again in March though.

Pretty soon I'm going to be bragging about how it pulls out of the hole, pulling two skiers, etc. Can't wait to install it.

Glad to see your thread come up again. Looks like that 350 should do the job nicely.

Nice lookin mil Luhrs...

All complete lookin, so you shouldn't have to do much sortin and scrounging to drop her in...

Have you determined the fate of the 6.2 when you yank her out?

Looks good. If I remember correctly you had a problem with the starter on the original motor and had to pull the whole thing to fix that. I think I would test that alternator before assembly just to be on the safe side since it is on the bottom of the motor.

Always. I mention only because it is kind of our official position. OPs, yes. Newbies, not so much.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm just going to scrap the 6.2 diesel. It was a junkyard motor to begin with plus it was smoking pretty bad towards the end of last summer. I think I cooked the rings somehow.

I plan to take real good care of the new 5.7.

NYGiants: I keep her at Lockwood Boat Works, right next to Morgan Marina.

G1sammons: $8,000. I know that's a lot but keep in mind it's a complete brand-new engine, with a 3-year warranty. I see companies all over selling 5.7 short blocks for $1300 but I needed a complete engine. I figured I might as well go new and hopefully get 10-12 years out of it. If you look at what a high-HP outboard costs the $8K is cheap.

Wow Luhrs, my 09 Yam OB F115 cost double that! Hoping to save on the fuel in the long run, by the time I've done about 5 thousand hours we'll be on an equal footing and you'll still have over two and a half times the horsepower!!!

Nice buying mate, can't wait to see the installation pics and the splash wake shots... :D
