I'm dealing with a '77 Mercury 1150 / 115HP - Ser. Num 4569747

I just got all my carbs pulled and I'm about to begin cleaning and rebuilding them. Can someone tell me what's the deal with these two screws that have the red paint on them? Is that locktite? Should I remove them to clean/rebuild? What is the red substance on them?

Here's what I'm talking about..... thanks for the help.

someone put finger nail polish on them to keep them from moving. Its what you do when you don't want the joy of red loctite but still want to keep the screw from moving. Old trick.

Sweet..... so go ahead and remove them and use loctite in lieu of nail polish.....unless I want to go with some color that might accent the look of my powerhead? :)

That substance is to seal them against air leakage. I am not sure I would use locktite, as that may not seal completely. I used some auto silicone to seam mine.
