I have a mercontrolr shifter and the cables are split and rusty. I am trying to locate or identify these cables so that i can replace them. There seems to be no visible markings on the entire length of cable. I am unaware if cables this old will have any marking at all. please advise.

That helps alot.THANK YOU! I believe this to me the problem I have with the performance of the boat. It has been sitting for 15 years and I recently got it running again. Had to do some rewiring but it now starts with the first touch. I was at the lake and everything works fine in idle and about 10mph but seems like there is a lot of distance to accelerate. When I finaly got WOT the boat does not accelerate much faster. It did get on plane twice but i was sort of wiggling throttle to make it catch. it only worked twice then after that it would not open up all the way again had to trailer and search for issue.
