My top carb in my 1978 evinrude 150 is missing its choke plate. Is this correct? The rod that it is suppose to be attached to has no holes in it to attach a plate. The evinrude parts catalog shows 3 plates, my motor starts up fine. Also, What should be the normal operating RPM range on this motor when I have the throttle wide open? It was only doing 4500 for me!!!

if it starts fine, i would not worry, as the choke is only used when starting. i would want to get the rpms up. to atleast 5500 if not more. the motor will run cooler and better. the reason is the crappy fuel we are getting these days.

My 79 200 was the same way. Only two choke plates. From the factory. It started fine for years, but tended to "lean sneeze" a lot during warmup. Your engine's normal operating range was between 4500-5500 rpm. I would prop it to run at the top end of this range. 5500-5600. At 4500, the engine is lugging. Change to a lower prop pitch.
