78 35hp johnson o/b

Can anyone help??<br />My out-board idles with out missing,runs fine.Maximum throttle I can only get only about 5 knots.Even with the thottle wide open it does not break down.(still only get about 5 knots)compression test shows about 170 psi in both cyclinders.<br />any help would be appreciated

Rollo, If motor is rapping out good rpms at wot I would check for spun prop.

Also check throttle linkage and timing plate, to be sure both are working properly. with engine NOT running, push control lever all the way forward and look and see if the throttle plates are opening all the way. Is it revving as OB asked, when this happens? If so, he's on target about the spun prop. You need to be more specific about what's going on, if you can. Post back and we will try to help!

OB will check for a spun prop and rickdb1boat will look to see if throttle plates are doing what they are suppose to.<br />Will post with out come<br />OH yea thanks guys for quick response to my time of need..
