'78 55hp block interchangability

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with interchanigng the '78 Evinrude 55hp block. I have this outboard which has a bad powerhead. I have been looking for a replacement but have not had much luck (did find one on ebay but was $400+ship, more than i can spend on it right now). According to boats.net there are no other years that cross refernce with this block. However, I read one post where someone swapped one out with a '74 50hp powerhead. Would appreciate if anyone has any insight or expericne with this.

In the "Top Secret File" there is a list of salvage yards, give a couple of them a call and see if they have some type of cross reference chart that might help you out.
