Not to be a no it all, but those electric crimp connections are going to fail you sooner or later from corrosion. Boat motors wires need 100% continuity.
Put epoxy type shrink tubing and soldier the wires.

sorry for the delayed response. i've been out of the office for a week or so and i do all my iboats posting from the office.

when i put the crimps on, i was in a hurry to get it done before dark in order to try it out that day. when it worked, i never went back to do it right. at this point, my plan is just to let it fail when it wants to and correct the problem the right way next time.

ajgraz: yeah, i just reached as far under the flywheel as possible. some of the wire i couldn't reach is bare. again, when it fails, i'll get a puller ($20 bucks on ebay) and replace the stator and trigger and the whole nine yards.
