Between the exhaust "port" and water "port" (not really sure what to call it) I put silicone on it was recommended by every video I watched on replacing water pumps

ok,thats just a "dam" so ta speak to keep exhaust in tha liner can and not let it into tha down housing.... some think if its (silicone) not there it will cause tha water pump ta get to hot....

doubt it will hurt anything... don't know for sure?.. i almost always take tha can completely out on my production motors so no use of any type sealant..... although if ya put it on tha outside edges of what ya call "the port" it could cause some problems.. that part is a machined mating surface to tha down housin'.............

I'm talking about putting silicone all the way around the metal part around the water pump port on the lower unit instead of just on the dam to keep the exhaust out of the water and vise versa

just on tha little cross piece... there is no way for exhaust to get into tha water coolin' system even without any silicone anywhere.... water enters through tha intake holes inta a sealed chamber that directs it to tha bottom of tha pump

Gotcha I just noticed a lot of water in the exhaust and a lot of bubbles in the tale tell line. Got the fuel pump diaphragm kit in and on the motor but it was already dark so I didn't start the motor will have to tomorrow to see if it will idle steady and hold a set rpm

looks like a lot but its a picture.. that is water and exhaust discharge... comes from tha block thru tha adapter plate.. its refered to as an exhaust relief... all of that happens AFTER it leaves tha block......has nothin' ta do with tha pump area.

its not a closed, pressurized system so you can get small amount air in it... this is where a water pressure gauge comes in.. it will tell ya whats goin' on with coolin' more than anything else...

shoulda added.. bubbles should go away after warm up and increase in rpm....... ina a tub and/or in tha lake... muffs, not so much..
