Hello All,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Have been able to find answers to many of my questions by previous posts, so thanks to all who contribute to this forum.
I've got a 1978 Evinrude 4hp motor that I inherited a number of years ago. It's my first outboard, so I've been learning from it. I use it infrequently and have slowly been learning the ins ad outs of the thing. I'm familiar with small engines, so am comfortable with the basic workings.
I run the recommended 50:1 fuel mix. I use an inline fuel filter to augment the onboard filter. After use I always disconnect the fuel line and run the carb dry. I've previously replaced the impeller and try to be attentive to how the engine is running.
I recently had, what appeared to be a fuel delivery issue, so pulled the carburetor (something I'd not previously done) and cleaned out the float chamber, SS jet, needle valve seat, and other orifices. That took care of the immediate problem, but in researching possible causes it led me to examine the fuel pump. Since the Carb cleanout helped my problem, I did not disassemble the fuel pump aside form looking at the filter screen, which seemed clear. I thought it wouldn't hurt to purchase carburetor and fuel pump rebuild kits, but have been unsuccessful determining if there is such thing as a rebuild kit for this model's fuel pump. According to the assembly diagram, there does not seem to be a diaphragm, so wondering if I'm missing something somewhere. Going on the adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'd rather not pull the thing apart and risk damaging something if it's not necessary.
Any input would be welcome.
Thanks.
