I have a splashwell that is way over size I would like to shorten,, I have a 78 115 Evinrude OB I would like to put on the Tin boat. I wonder if any have measured how far back into the boat one of these will tilt??

I am guessing I will need something like 19 inches of splashwell to accommodate the motor tilt, how far off am I?

BTW I have no solid transom to hang the "new" motor off of just yet, that is why I need to ask.

Bump!

Let's see if I can make this question more plain.

At full up tilt position, * / * how far will an older Evinrude/Johnson outboard extend into a boat splashwell?

Re: 78 Evinrude tilt/splashwell question.

my old Lonestar has a 22"long bracket/ slashwell with a 4 cylinder 90degree 115hp Evinrude that when tilted all the way up the top of the motor leans in 16".

Why would you want to shorten it?

Thank you, neighbor!!

"Why would you want to shorten it?"

There is a method to my madness! Or an excuse anyways.

The long and wedge shaped splashwell running between the stern seats was made to also cover an on-deck 25 gal aluminum fuel tank. (about where the "doghouse" would be on an I/O boat) Switching to a 28 gal belly tank and seeking to reclaim some space.

She is an 18 fter and as a buddy said while looking into the stripped hull,, " Man that looks like a big boat,,,,Till you start thinking of everything that has to go back into it."

IF I can shorten the splashwell to come about even with the rear seat backs I reckon I can gain enough room for a cooler and a bench/table in between the seats. Or just some walking and fish fighting room If I decide to go with removable seats back there.
