Hey Fourm, Had some bad luck today and it looks like the engine has to come out to replace the aft casting the part that is Glued to the transom, It looks like the cast has broken around the 4 to 5 inch diameter lip.

My question is if someone has done this before, what should I expect. my main concern is Alignment when it goes back together.

Please educate me... I'm still learning
Thanks

I have complete rebuild the exact same boat (and year) you have there.
Glued to the transom?
Can you post some pictures of the part/dammage your talking about.
Yep, it is a gm 3.0L

Re: 78 Glastron

Thanks for the reply Frank,
I can try and download pics tomorrow. Engine was to come out today and I'll have a look in the morning. Maybe Glued was the wrong term. Gasket on one side and gasket on the aft end. silicon sealant on the aft. Not sure of the proceedure but looks like a handful. Is there a couple of bolts that marry this all together and a line of sealant before tightening down.

looking forward from the rear it will be the cast circle that is about 5 inches in diameter. Gimble bearing housing? anyways. apparently to remove this the engine needed to come out to "get er done". I understand it pretty much but would like more education about it.

Nice boat I like it alot. I've just never splashed it in the water yet. Project boat for my son and I that is getting closer to splash down. Any stories or info would be great.

Thanks again, I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Re: 78 Glastron

After the outdrive and engine is removed it is just removing the 4 nuts and 2 bolts from the inside to get it all off.
Only on the outside there is a rubber gasket to seal the gimball house to the transom.
Silicone sounds like there was some leaking thru the transome/housing.
Ill wait for the pictures :)
Have a look at classicglastron (dot) com. Tonns of info there.
