I bought this unit last year and noticed that when I go to WOT [and subsequently remove my hand from the throttle control] it rolls back to half throttle. The dealer told me that it is a safety feature. I looked in Seloc and Clymer manuals and no mention of a friction adjustment. My control box is black with the chrome lever and thumb-controlled trim-buttons on the lever.

With the vibrations involved - a little spring tension anywhere in the throttle system will cause that. I'm not sure where the "frictioner" is on your particular throttle.

-W

Re: 78 Merc900 Throttle Friction

I've had that control box, as well as the old white kind and now have the newer 3000 controls, and with all three, I could let go of the throttle at any speed and it would not move even in rough water. I don't know if there is an adjustment or not. Never thought of it really. My friend had a Bayliner MiniJet that did what you are experencing and it is a big pain in the ***. Another friend has a 2002 Glastron and their throttle stays where it's put. I don't know if the screw that hold the handle to the control would adjust tention or not. Hopefully, someone will have the answer.

Craig
