78 OMC 190, where's the water intake?

I can't seem to find the water intake, the one to hook a hose to to run engine out of water. Is anyone familiar with it's location?

Should be on the lower unit.
4 holes on both sides of the lower.#3

It needs a big bucket or muffs.

above the prop 1964 to 1977- water intake is horizontal - no muffs fit the electric shift units.

you can either dunk the drive in the lake, use one of these:

the last example is the best imo, because you can loosen that cap anytime you want to check your impeller flow/pressure out on the lake

Just curious.

If you use the one in the engine bay (Flusher attachment) doesn't that allow the outdrive water pump to run dry?

no, water runs both directions from the flusher

same deal for the trunnion mounted flusher. water runs back to the impeller from that type as well
