Found water in my lower today. After a pressure test I found the shift cable to be culprit. It has a small split in the cable on the boot above the shift housing. Anyone ever tried to seal one of these, I just can't justify 4-5 hundred for a new one.

I used heat shrink and some cable sealant on one -I got it at an industrial electric supply place near my old work
although my tear was above the waterline, I think the heat shrink and sealant would work underwater.

I'll give it a try and see if it holds pressure.

Looks like it's fixed. I used something called The Right Stuff and wrapped it with electrical tape and coated it with liquid tape and it's held 15 lbs of pressure for over an hour. I'll know more after a trip to the lake on Sunday.

I'd be finishing it off with heat shrink tubing. That cable twists as you steer.

All day on the lake Sunday, checked the lower today and no water, just clean, clear gear oil!!!! What a relief.
