78 sea king 7.5 questions.

From what I have read here I have a 78 sea king 7.5 It is a xtv 50575B model k751 5106B serial number 1383690. A couple of questions. What spark plug would it take, is it water or air cooled, and what fuel ratio shoud I run? And the leam-rich mixture screw, do you just experiment with that setting until you get it to run good? Does anyone know the size gas plug it would take to use a external gas tank And does anyone know if they still have repair manuals for these? Thanks..

Hey there I have a 78 9hp Clinton that should be about the same, the K tells me that is a Clinton. The plug is J13y which I think is Champion number, the fuel is 50 to 1, it is air cooled however, it still uses a impeller on the lower end. It would take forever to try to tell you what it takes to set the carb and may not be the same on yours as mine. I would suggest that you try ebay for a manual you will only find an owner?s manual and parts list, the are on a CD, I could not find the repair manual but that is how I started. Time and patience and a few curse words, and the thing runs great now. Yours is probably not the F/N/W model so the carb setting could be a lot different. Good luck and have fun.

I have been looking and have not found any yet... The one thing i was wondering is, on the bottom of the carb bowl, you have the brass nut with the screw in needle that is spring loaded, that when you take out, lets gas run out? Is that a idle mixture screw? I took it off the other night, and put it back in, being used to working on 4 stroke carbs.. It runs, but will not idle.. If it, anyone know of a baseline setting for it? Thanks...
