well I finally got my 16' Starcraft runabout out onto the water this weekend and I ran into a problem.

The electric start worked fine as did the electrice choke.
The problem was the fast idle lever on the remote control box. It didn't work at all. No response or tension at all. So I'm guessing there is a broken part in the housing. I'm hoping it small...

My next issue, is the throttle response. When I shift into forward it engages nice and smooth, but to get any throttle response I have to push lever all the way forward. Then if I push a bit more I can get her to wind right out and she runs smooth, hard and gets my little aluminum up and flying.
Now I can back down and she will respond accordingly to 3/4, mid and lowend throttle range, but then when I want to open her up, I have to jam her to the dash to get that highend throttle.

I thought the cable might be broke, but she seems to respond normally when backing it down. Like I said, SEEMS to....

Any suggestions?

99 % bad cable. either way you have to open the control.

Well I opened her up TD. Both the cables are tested working with NO breaks.
I noticed the throttle cam was out of adjustment.
Also with the warm-up lever, the set screw was loose so I tightened it and now it is working.

So after all the adjustments I re-assebled the remote and still have the same problem. I do notice that the cables have a large loop in them to align for connect to the motor.

The id# on the cables is 14 T19. I am wondering if these cables are too long?
My starcraft is 15 1/2'.

Thanks for all the knowledge..

Re: '79 55 Evinrude throttle response

Well, I purchased new cables...Read the manual thoroughly and did setup as instructed. when I adjust for the backlash it almost brings her back to idle, but the warm up lever lifts up. I try backing her down a couple turns on the adjusting trunion nut at the engine and then she does the same as before.

It's like the spring has weakend or something. The stator assembly always seems to stick....I can manually idle back and the cable moves at the throttle connection on engine, but then I try as it instructs and open wide and back down slowly and she responds till idle position on shifter then just freezes...Then I back shifter into neutral and no difference. Throttle stays the same... Just not making it to the idle stop....Is there a chance of the spring behind throttle lever cam weakening?

This has me frustrated as everything else is ready for water, just this dang throttle return to idle dilema...I am going to check service manual again for the lube points, maybe I missed a very important one.

HELPPPPPPP!!!!!!!
