Re: 79' bayliner stringer 16'

Yep I'm adding 2 extra stringers one on port and one on starbourd side basically like our set up, I cut 8 bulk heads to stiffen it up my hull is very thin on this boat. Also I'd like to as..I'm a machinist I deal with tight tolerances..I kinda giggle at carpentry work..wihin a 1/4 " run it..my bulkheads are basically spot on with the factory contour of the boat..do I really have to be this picky? Or can I live with an 1/8 gap say between stringer and hull dry fit before bedding them. What do you guys suggest for a maximum tolerance.obviously the tighter fitting the better....

Actually you want to space all the wood off the hull 1/4" to prevent creating a hard spot. The void is then filled when you PB or PL bed the wood & create the cove fillet.

WOG has some great info here:

I was going to use popcicle sticks between my stringers and hull during the bedding process.. needless to say tolerances are wide open basically r

+/- 140.625/1000ths

So yep....:D

The bigger the gap, the more PB/PL it'll take to bed the stringers and the more of both you'll need to make fillets....

So it isn't totally wide open tolerance, but I figured I'd use a more typical machinist dimension above.......

The gaps are 1/4" because they're easier to fill that way, trying to push and adhesive material 3/4 of an inch through a 1/8" gap is difficult and you run the risk of just bridging the gap instead of filling it completely.

Your adhesive material should be fed from one side only making sure it comes out the other side before advancing.

Did you order cabosil, CSM, and a bubble roller? You will need them.
