bought a 79 9.9 evinrude and it was not pumping any water, I bought the water pump kit and replaced everything. It puts out water great now on the two exhaust like ports but is is still not spraying any water out of the indicator hole on the cowl. I took the little hose off of the fitting on the block. Only a drip or two comes out. The motor does not seem to be running hot, but how can I be sure? Im not sure where it could be plugged. Also seems to be a little smoke coming out under carb. Possible minor exhaust leak?? Is this going to cause problems?

Thanks

Use a piece of weed wacker line and run it into the fitting and see if it is plugged, the tell-tale is first in line from the pump, if it isn't overheating and pumping good, you most likely have a bug or something plugging the fitting. To check for an exhaust leak, run the engine at high idle and squirt some oil into the carb and make it smoke and look for smoke coming from somewhere where it not supposed to be coming from.

Try running some weedeater line up the indicator hose and fitting probably had a bug or other stopping it up. Can't really answr the other question but if it's running ok I'd leave it alone for now.
