yea i noticed that also...it happened when i had it in forward gear and rev'ing it high....it wasnt over heating though, i ran it for awhile like that..head stayed cool where i was able to hold my hand on it..and water was still being circulated..so i prob so got the pee tube clogged or something, it still drips alil....gonna put a new impeller on and maybe a waterpump if it needs it run a wire up through the pee hole...and see if that fixes it.

Something for you to consider.....racing the motor while in gear in a tank that small blows out a lot of the water....not good. The water in the tank gets aerated and your pushing air entrained water to the power head. Under normal conditions , on a boat, the water pump draws in fresh water, without air bubbles, and cools more efficiently.

Check to see if the tiller handle has jumper a gear tooth, throwing off the throttle marking on the handle. This was a common thing to have happened if the throttle was rotated with the tiller in the up or storage position. Do a link and sync and adjust the low speed mixture adjustment. Lower the rpm's to a reasonable level before shifting and shift in or out of gear smartly, the dog gear will thank you.

BTW, I've owned the same motor since '79, bought it brand new in the crate.
