You made me get back up and go out into the garage to see what my keel guard looks like so I snapped a few pics. Don't know if this is what your talking about but mine looks like it's supposed to lay tight against the hull aft. Mine has a small gap because of a missing rivet.

We have been glossing over the fact that it's AN OMC!!!! Forget not wanting an I/O....you really don't one you can't get parts and service for!! It's not even a Cobra, it's a Stringer. So you really really can't get parts. Let that one out to pasture unless someone wants to repower it.
