WHEW....
I thought I knew it all, but obviously Im not smart enough to check the HID when I bought her:eek:. Thank the good LORD my sister is a cop. She looked up both numbers to find out what the hey... evidently, I DO have in my possesion an 87 seafarer. The title is to a 79 that was owned by the same person( he obviously has great taste). All I need to do is visit the PO to get the right title. I dont think I will need the "angry Mob" to help on this. Magnum(Dog) and 'lil priss(40cal) should do the trick of persuation. If not there always is my Ex-Wife.
so I admit it- I'm an idiot

your friend,

Well, admitting it is the 1st step to recovery... :D

Is there a 12 step program for Idiots???

Do they sit around tables drinking coffee and say...

"Hi... My name is bubba... and I am an idiot"...

Others reply... "Hi Bubba... Welcome"... :)

Cause man o man... Sometimes *I* should be leading the group!!!!

At least the PO has the right title and has it HANDY!!! Unlike the Firebird TransAm I bought back in MO.... He sold me the car... Said he would get the title to me "next week". Since it was a good friend of mine  I trusted him. I jumped into the resto it and went to register it... OOOps.. .Forgot he has the title... He moved, lost the title and I had to wait to get MY title... SCrewy mess. And YES we are still friends... :)

I hope it gets better...

Re: 79 is really an 87????

i feel for ya on that one Nuboat. my "other" tinboat didn't come with title and i'm going to have to go the bonded title route, which involves an appraisal and posting bond in amt of 1.5x appraised value. probably shoulda gotten this little detail taken care of before sinking hundreds of hours into resto/paint/raising gunwales, as now i'll be posting a higher bond based on my own resto efforts! i'm pulling all the wood back off boat til i get this done.

or maybe if i get lucky, appraiser will think my flailings have REDUCED the value of the boat.....

Ok, now I don't feel so bad. My best buds wife works @ the SMC. She told me the easy way to get this taken care of. I feel for you guys. Problem is, its gonna take cash out of my project fund. Not too much though. It's pretty cheap for small boat titles in FLORIDA. I'll visit the PO tomorrow am, before beer thirty. Wish me luck.

Alrighty then.
spent last sat. trying to track down the PO. He had bought the boat from his cousin, who has in possession a 79 SC. His cousin is illiterate and got the titles crossed up. The PO didnt pay attn either, so I will be getting the title sometime soon. Still love the boat though, nothing like a Starcraft!

Glad you have it coming to closure. I bought a boat from a guy who was deceased. In Michigan you need a title for an I/O. The deceased never put the title in his name. The daughter couldn't find the title. Long story but I finally got it into my name. It took a while and a pint of blood.

The moral of my story is buy a boat and follow the owner to Sec of State. Do the title transfer then and now, save yourself a lot of grief. No title, no money, no boat.

Yeah Man, Im from Michigan Don, I know how that goes up there, almost the same here in Florida(by law). the Employee at the DMV is supposed to view the vessel and confirm the HIN and the Registration numbers( MC numbers). Im home sick today for the second day, but feeling better so IM going to try to meet the Origional PO to "gift" titles to each other. the second PO said he would pay the re-title fees for us both.;)

Sorry to hear about your title troubles. In Maine just need a Bill O Sale. Even if the boat has no markings at all, no problem. Fill out a short form and state issues a new serial# via fax as you wait. No additional charge.

Awesome, the guy (po) sounds like a cool dude. Paying for title transfers is a nice thing for him to do.

Yea, Michigan and Florida don't mess around with boat titles. I even looked into a service (from Maine) that would buy my boat, title it in Maine, and then sell it back to me. That's how desperate I was getting. Thankfully it got resolved.
