79 Johnson tilt and trim

My friend has a 79 140 Johnson and the power tilt and trim stopped working the motor runs fine but it will not raise the motor or lower the motor we can use the bypass screw to raise it and lower any help would be greatly appreciated

If the motor is turning, and is turning the Pump, the problem is in the Hydraulics. I suggest a Factory Service Manual for that particular motor

Tried topping up the fluid ???

A lot of Problems with the Tilt and Trim of that design, is from Operators not retracting the Trim Rams in all the way when securing the engine for towing, once the Tilt Lock is engaged

Thank you Racerone it was low but we filled it up and jimmbo I noticed that he broke the skeg I think he didn’t raise it up or went over a ditch however the problem he wanted me to help with was the switch it wasn’t making contact I got that fixed and ran it up and down about a foot then it stopped motor will run in both directions but outboard doesn’t move we opened the release screw we can lift it up and down I think I will have to take it off and check the valves and pump coupling thank you all
