I have a 79 Merc 150 that won't start when cold without me squirting pre-mix in all carbs. I apply 2 squirts per carb and the engine starts right away and will start all day on it's own. I changed the reeds which someone told me was the problem. What do you think I should try next? I pump the primer bulb till it's real hard and choke it prior to starting. Out of ideas. Thanks for any help on this.

Hope some one can awnser this. I have found Merc to hate the cold. I been stuck on the lake a few times from a night full of Jugging. Its just hard to get a cold Merc going. Great once they warm up.:)

Try this. Pump tha bulb as usuall. Trim tha motor ALL tha way in. Push tha choke in and hold it while cranking. Tha motor should at least try to fire. It will give some indication of trying ta start. As soon as it does release tha key. Move tha fast idle up just a tad and turn tha key without tha choke engaged. It should start and run. Some motors you have to repeat tha first part a second time but not very often. As soon as it starts, trim tha motor back to level and let it idle till its warm. Contrary to what some think it takes a lot of gas ta start a cold motor..............This has always worked for me on some of tha hardest startin' carb Merc's you will ever come across............
