79 Merc 150 engine problem

I was out today and noticed when i gave it throttle it was like a clutch was engaging and the boat would not go anywhere. Like a bearing is spinning durig throttle. What could this be?

Are you saying the motor revs up but you don't go faster?

Yes. It's like I am pushing in a clutch pedal. You can hear the RPM increase but that's it.

The prop could be spinning on the rubber hub. If so, you can get it repaired at a prop shop.

locally here at least they want $80 to replace hub..... and online i can buy an aluminum prop for $91- 130 including shipping.....

call your local shop and find out ;)

I took some pics after I took the prop off. The prop nut wasn't on that tight when i went to remove it. It was a self locking nut. Is this a 1 piece hub/prop or do I have to get the hub pressed off?

it has to be pressed on and off..you have to take it to a prop shop.

Make a mark accross the hub and the prop spindle, then go out and use it again. Afterwards, if the marks no longer line up - you have confirmation that the hub has spun.
