79 mercruiser 228 can i replace w/newer

i pulled a 79 gm 5.0-228 hp - found and got stung on a 350 turned out to be an 1986 -- pre 85 will bolt right in can i change flywheel and will this 86 be able to be used ? any help will be great thanks

Nope, the flywheel/ crankshaft bolt pattern is smaller on the newer motors...

Sierra makes a retro coupler to do it, using the newer flywheel though...
