well i found the wire that you have jump. its the green to power wire and now it goes down about and inch or two then stops and pump groans and you can push the out drive down about and inch then try the pump again and it groans and the out drive dont move but you can push it down about another inch or two but then it wont go down after the second time do i have to bleed the system and if so how do i do that?

The system is self bleeding, you just need to cycle it up & down a few times.....
What you need to do is have someone push the 'down' button while you stand on it to fully lower it..
What happens is that the ends of the trim cylinders get sticky with oxidization, & the cylinders have far more 'oomph' going up than down...
Like I said cycle them up & down in this manner a few times....
It would not hurt to spray a little Kroil on the ends first....;)

Re: 79 mercuiser tilt wont go down

thank you! alright now when you go up with it and you go down with a jumper pack( the buttons dont work for some reason or another) and when you jump the solenoid to go up it goes up fine then it will go down about two inches and the pump will groan and the cables get warm but you can push the out drive down by hand and itll go up again but the pump will groan really bad after a few times of doing this so i took the pump apart because i think its just too old cause its a 79 so ill just buy a new motor for the pump and see what happens any help with the switch would help
