79 sylvan sportster UPDATE!!!

I have posted my progress on this boat that I have been working on for 1 1/2 yrs.

Today was supposed to be a good day. Me and the wife and four other family members were going to put it in the water for the first time. Have a picnic and do some fishing.

Just before midnight on Friday a drunk driver changed our plans.

Now I sit here with no truck, trailer or boat.

Glad your vehicles took 1 for the family. Better them then you all. How fast was the jackhole going? Jeez, it looks like your truck & rig were parked......

Hope it goes good w/ their insurance. Keep your's up to date on the claim status, you may need to turn it in on your policy & let them go after the other insurance company. And hope it resolves quickly & w/ as little hassle as possible.

Just got back from my scheduled family outing. I at least got to look at all the other boats.

The female passenger in the car was taken to the hospital but, I believe she will be fine. She was alert and speaking.

I was hooked up and parked in front of the house because we were leaving at 6:30am.

The speed limit on our street is 25 mph. There is a stop sign two blocks from our house. He was driving a Crown Vic which i'm sure has the V8 so he must of hammered the pedal to cause the damage he did.

I went to the tow yard today and removed all my gear. The boat is sitting on the ground and looks pretty good. I could see a dent on the rear port side, the bow eye was ripped off and the skeg is bent. I cannot see the bottom but I think it's repairable. The tow company says that the insurance company will total it because of liability reasons. We will see.

I am just so glad that no one got hurt real bad or killed. I will be in a boat again, I just don't know when.

Man oh man, I feel for you and your family. That has to feel like a punch to the gut. As stated above, at least nobody was seriously injured.

Got a trailer and pretty much rebuilt it. Went to the tow yard and the boat was lifted onto new to me trailer.

Insurance Co. paid for it all. We settled on trailer and boat. Everyone walked away happy.

My truck is going to be repaired. Hopefully it only takes a few more weeks. I want to put my boat in the water this year.

I do have repairs to make to the boat. It amazes me that the boat got so little damage.

Yes, the guys at the yard were great! They allowed me to make the necessary adjustments to my bunks so the boat would sit proper. They even offered me straps. I was well prepared because I knew that the bow eye was broken off.

It was a slow ride home. I will be doing my own repairs. That will start tomorrow.

Maybe you'll get it closer to 'right' this time May be a record, 3 threads, same boat.......

Sometimes it's really nice to meet people that give a flip about what they do, and go out of their way to assist the public that generally keeps them employed!

Glad it's headed back the right way, and hope the truck gets handled as well & quickly.

Congrats on getting a decent looking trailer & the boat back to the boathouse safely

Wow, what a thread and story. Sorry about what happened, but it's great to hear from a person with their priorities right! Hats off to you, sir and the "fishing gods" will repay your time lost, I'm just sure of it.

Just read through this and I'm amazed at how little damage the boat appeared to have after the carnage the trailer & truck took.
