Re: 79 walkaround grady white. stay away? or buy

Hey Bar-B-Q..just read an old post of yours.Looks like we might be in the same boat. I recently bought a 1978 20' Grady WA. The boat has a 2000 125 hp mercury. Way too slow for this boat. Just bought a 1980 mint 200 hp mercury. I found the starboard side transom thru hull fitting from the self bailing deck was leaking.Wood around around fitting really soft. Not sure how much water was absorbed.Reading about your previous owner's experience with the 200 and the advice of other posts now I'm left with 2lbs in the seat of my pants that I swear wasn't there before I began reading.I read all there is about sea cast stuff.Don't know if Frankie from australia ever used it.Question is..what ever happened with your boat? Is transom holding up? Any repairs to it? Was it very expensive? I probably have more questions but I think this is all I my stomach can take for now! Any help is mucho appreciated! Thanks! ;)

I ran a 76 20' wac grady for 15 years. I had a 150 and went to a 200. Get the 200, 150 is dogging with a load. I got 48 with the 200 and 42 with the 150. These were very heavy boats for 20'er. No jack plates just bolt it on. Most back then were cut for 20" shafts. Mine had a decent wash well that kept the following sea out. Tough boats for sure.

Yeah, I'd like to know too. I'm going to be putting on a 200hp in the spring. I'm curious as to your transom. I've got pics to trade and the original spec sheet from grady listing all standard features and options for years '78 and 79'. Some major differences between what was standard /optional although most assume they are they same. Anyone interested in those I can email them. :D
