hello
im getting an older zodiac which is rated for a 4-6 hp engine (65 lbs). i would like to put a 8hp that weights 80lb for more speed. this boat will be used for beach launch surf trips.

I wouldn't think there should be a problem using 8 HP motor. Just make sure you don't go crazy with just you alone in the boat.

Not sure if it will actually lift the front that high up with an 8 hp either.

The engine will be too heavy for the boat...Your going to have a hard time getting up on plane unless you sit on the bow tube and even then it will take awhile. You will also be grossly exceeding the plate recommendation.

I have a 30hp race motor on my 8ft inflatable and it runs fine, so a 8hp is still perfect, even a 15hp will still be great on there .....
