Re: 8 gauge wire on 24v system?

well moving the batteries up front would make wiring a breeze, Im worried about the performance. I might try heading to the river this weekend and run around with batteries in the back and then move them up front and see if i can tell any difference in handling.

Go figure,I go and look at my new trolling motor again and unwrap the wires comming off of it. Has a tag that says use a 50amp breaker with 6 gauge wire. Its crazy how they say use one thing and put a tag on the product saying to use a different one.

I wonder if that 56amps is a dead stall, and it does not draw near that much and would be fine with the batteries in back.

I agree that the 50A breaker is not correct but the they have no idea how long the boat is or where the batteries are on the boat. In this day and age, the manufacturers generally assume a dealer is going to do the installation and they wrongly assume that the dealer knows what's acceptable. Turns out there are an awful lot of boats with improper wiring. My new pontoon was one that was screwed up badly from the factory. Does the recommendation of a 50A breaker also indicate that I was right in my questioning the actual current draw since the numbers for a similar MotorGuide were lower.

The 6ga internal to the motor will carry 60 amps so that would work
