Hey everyone, I have a 1980 Evinrude 115 that i pulled from a bass boat for my center console project. When in the bass boat, the trim ran off a separate solenoid system. I still have the wiring but I also purchased the 3 wire / 2 wire relay harness. My trim motor is still 3 wire. From what u can tell it should be easy.

Can anyone offer pointers on this? The wiring seems easy (I know all the color codes) but I dont want to assume anything and would welcome any input

The relays can't handle the amperage that a solenoid can. Will not be reliable even if you get it to work!

I had a suspicion that would be the case.

That being said, my boat was originally configured for a two wire trim \ relays. I know the current for the down wire runs directly from the switch. I know ill need to use a bigger wire but will the original trim switch be okay to use?

Another thought, if the trim switch \ wires cant hold the amps for down, could I Install another solenoid? have one for down and up? that way I could keep my helm wiring as is. thoughts?

The original wiring for the 3-wire motor used the throttle switch for down and the solenoid for up. Current for down is very small compared with up as you can well imagine.
