800 Thunderbolt age??

Recently picked up my first boat, 14ft Driver 440, came with a mercury 800 thunderbolt ignition 80hp!

After two weeks i've just found the serial number, 9177706

Anybody know what age this is?? I've searched various websites to try to determine age but no luck!

Sorta confirmed my suspictions as it has 1978 written on the front of the air box! But that could of been replaced for all i knew.
