80's Johnson Trim/Tilt HOW DO I FILL THE TRIM UNIT WITH NEW FLUID???

Hey guys I got a 235hp Johnson I'm working on its on my 22ft center console aquasport.. Any body out there that can give me the steps to filling the trim with fluid to get it working again would be nice I installed a new trim motor also since the other one was shot. I've tried a few ways of doing it first I tried just filling the trim up with fluid as much as I could and screwed top screw in left resivor screw opened a turn or 2 and cycled the engine up and down about 5 or 7 times screwed the screw on the bottom in all the way tight nothing! next I tried another way my buddy fills his trim which is run the trim motor up and it sucks in a ton of fluid sealed the screws shut when it was totally filled cycled the engine up and down by hand and nothing... Only the 2 little rams will move in and out The main hydraulic ram will hold the engine up about 6 inchs away from the little rams making no contact after I cycled it up and down by hand it just wont go up at all if I lower it and try to trim up it just stays on the 2 little rams. I'm stuck and need some help with this I've been messing with it a lot lately and cant find anywhere on the internet that has the steps my engine is a 1984 235hp Johnson J235txcrc

Also the trim motor is perfectly sound and was installed the correct

What screws are you talking about that you're messing with ?? Normally you just put fluid in the resivor, top it off and then cycle it up and down. You fill it in the full tilt position.

Is the manual release valve closed all the way?

What screws are you talking about that you're messing with ?? Normally you just put fluid in the resivor, top it off and then cycle it up and down. You fill it in the full tilt position.

I tried this and it didn't work at all the motor just keeps running only the 2 piston rams function and comes up not the main one. I've filled it cycle the motor many times and still nothing. The manual release valve is fully tightened down

I filled my 90hp Johnson TNT by having a 2nd person hold the trim in the up position so the oil cycles through the motor. Fill it up until it spits it out. Cap the reservoir before letting go of the trip up button.

When you replaced the trim mtr did you lose any oil out of pump hsg below it ?? That hsg has to be filled with oil and the pump primed before installing the mtr.
