Running across the lake last weekend at about 7/8 throttle, it felt like the motor just fell on it's face. After that, low speeds are fine, but when you open the throttle up it bogs down. While my daughter drove I was able to pump the primer bulb and it would act normal allowing us to get back the dock.

From reading on here, it seems that this is indicative of a fuel pump issue. After looking at the motor it appears that there is a fuel pump built into each of the carb's instead of having a seperated single pump feeding both carb's. Can anyone confirm this and advise if just rebuilding both fuel pumps is adviseable or if it would be better to go ahead and do a complete carb/fuel pump overhaul on them both?

It almost seems that with all the work involved to get to the carbs in the first place it would make sense to do it all at once. I looked for carb kits on here and they show a kit for '61-'75 50hp or a kit for a '86 and up 4cyl 50hp - nothing for an '81. My title says 1981, S/N#5799294, 4 cyl...???

Fuel PUMP replacement on my 1979 470 Merc was the remedy. Stalled big time on acceleration. New PUMP gave me full Power.

I did find out that Mercrusier Price was $255
I went to Orielly Auto Parts ( They carry Marine product too) it cost me $90.00 bucks.

My Carb is just a 2 jet rochester.

hi you can get the kit on here to service pumps ,the engine you have will use the 84 on kit it is really easy , disconnect fuel line and loom from engine ,then remove starter motor ,you then need to detach choke linkage ,you can then get at carb retaining nuts ,remove top carb first (push thottle forward to assist removal)then remove lower carb strip and rebuild .
