Re: '81 50hp stalling and rpm problem: Video included for you master mechanics
I love to learn...after I had hastily disassembled the carb, and declared that it AOK, I went to my manual. That's where I learned that that little screw with a hole in it was the main jet...and that bit of gunk clogging the hole in the jet was a problem.
There was a tiny bit of room for gas to pass through, but not a lot. This probably explains the bogging issue. I think the reason it opened up after I used the SeaFoam, etc was because the junk had fallen down into the bowl. When it died on me, I had just hit a wave and when I came back down, I instantly lost power. Call me a genius, but I think that the jumping motion caused the dirt in the bottom carb to be stirred up and since it was at WOT there was a lot of suction and you know the rest.
I think I'm on the right track...I'm just kicking myself for tearing the whole carb off...all I would have needed to do is drop the bowl and clean the jet. Everything else is perfect....
