Looking good Jay. I'll cross my fingers for good weather for you next Sunday.

BTW, our boats are similar, just a few years apart and mine had 2-part foam filling the area under the floor on either side of the engine. It did not have foam anywhere above the floor. Just foam between the floor and hull with greater concentration toward the stern.

I read a while back someone on here (bond-o?) post a suggestion of running a rope from drain slots (like those you cut) along the stringer before pouring the foam. Once the foam set, they pulled out the rope leaving a small channel for drainage. Sounded like a good idea as long as the rope slides out.

That is a good idea Clockwatcher. I am still not sure this is what I want to do.

That rope idea sounds neat, I may try and implement that in my build.

Hey frisco,
I can see a couple problems with the rope idea. One is that when you pull the rope out it will tear the foam at least at the point of contact, leaving a better opportunity for water to get into the foam. Second if wet foam gets on the foam, I don't think you would be able to pull it out. However, One solution to the above mentioned problems would be to cover the rope with a plastic barrier then it may work.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Well I just got home and did not get a chance to get any work done today. Now my allergies are kicking my butt. I hope to have her running again tomorrow.

Thanks for the input Bob. I am waiting to see how the sea trials go before I do anything else major

Well I finally got the drive on and gave her a start. She fired right up and ran like a top. I ran it in for 20 minutes to make sure the cam is seated, and brought the temperature up. She got to about 145 degrees.

The only problem is I think she is starving for fuel at idle. I can give it lots of gas and she will fire up and run but when you run at idle, after about 60 seconds she quits (see video). I then have to pump like crazy to get it started again. Other than that I am ready for a lake trial.

Oh, I put the new drive stickers on.

Sounds like the floats are off in the carb, bowls are not filling enough and causing the motor to starve for gas at idle. If idle is good and holds for a minute or so at 700RPMs or so, then floats and bowl settings would be my next step.

Fantastic Jay. Temp is perfect. You had me worried with the thermostat issue.

Did it die like this on the stand. If not, what has changed that would cause it to do so?

You may want to run it up again, bring it back to idle and let it die. Then pull a spark plug and check for wet or white conditions. Wish I was more help.

I think it is leaning out considering how much I have to pump it to get it started again.

Frisco did you check the fuel pressure, filters, lines, pick up tube and antisiphon valve for blockage? you may have picked something up from the bottom of the tank or during reassembly! good luck

It was a clogged fuel line. I took everything apart this afternoon and blew it out, and viola, it runs perfect.

Video in a little while.

Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 11-8

So I just put my drive back on after my restoration and my drive will hit Forward but just kinda grinds when you go for reverse, and has a tick when in nuetral. I can stick my finger under the drive and give the shift lever a nudge and it will go into reverse.

So, what do you guys think?

1. Could is just be out of adjustment from the restoration, and when I put it back together I spun the little brass ferrule one way too far? I have not attempted this due to the weather today, and the fact that I have a raging head cold.

Or

2. The lower shift cable is shot and I need a new one. Keep in mind it was working fine in October when I took it apart.

If I need a new part is this the one I need for an 81 260 Mercruiser?

Also here is a picture of my bell housing (way back laster year when i did the bellows), do I need to do the retap thing to my housing? There is a nut on the outside.
